This is a software program to check your system performance before using the DVRex.
[How to start]
1. Copy the five files (Rextst16.dll, Rextest.exe, Rextst32.dll, Rextstnt.sys, Readme.txt) to your hard disk, or to a formatted floppy disk.
2. Run Rextest.exe.
When you are running on WindowsNT, you will have to logon as an Administrator or an User with an Administrator authority.
[How the test works]
1. When you do the hard disk check, it checks through the DirectDraw overlay surface. It will go through 2 surfaces in the test, first the YUV surface, and next the RGB surface.
2. If both surfaces are not supported, the test will stop and inform that your graphics board does not support overlay.
3. If YUY2, RGB565 surfaces are supported(S3 ViRGE type overlay), or YUY2, UYVY surfaces are supported(nVIDEA RIVA type overlay), it will display a color pattern, and ask you if the image is displayed correctly. (The color bars will be white, yellow, cyan, green, magenta, red, blue, black)
If they are displayed correctly, click yes.
4.The test will tell you your overlay type, or that your graphics board does not support overlay.
5.In DVRex Properties/Detailed Settings/Overlay, set your display type.
Warning!!! : This test will only check the Direct Draw capabilities of your graphics accelerator card; if your graphics card does not have enough memory bandwidth, or for other reasons caused by your graphics card, the overlayed image might not be displayed properly.
[Information display area]
[PCI info]
1. BIOS version : The PCI BIOS should be higher than version 2.1. (PCI BIOS version will not be displayed in WindowsNT)
2. Vendor/Chipset : If the chip set is unknown, chances are that DVRex will not function properly.
3. Latency Timer : The latency timer should be set to higher than 60. If this value is too low, the DVRex may not function properly, or it may not be able to display overlay. This value can be changed in the CMOS setup of your computer.
[Hard disk performance]
This test will measure the read/write performance of your hard disk. Set the hard drive that you wish to test, and click "HDD Test". The results will show automatically.
The transfer rate needed for DV data is 3.6MB/s, but to avoid OS overhead and capture audio data at the same time, it is better to have at least 4.5MB/s.
If your hard disk performance is below 4.5MB/s, the bar will show in Red. This means that there is a possibility of frame drops during capture and playback of DV files.
If it is between 4.5MB/s and 7MB/s, the bar will show in yellow. This means that this hard drive can be used in normal procedures, but might have frame drops when handling heavy data, such as mixing four channels of audio data.
If the data transfer rate is higher than 7MB/s, the bar will show in blue. There should be no problems in using this hard disk with DVRex.
Warning!! : The value calculated is an rough estimate of your hard disk performance. The test will not insure the system compliance with DVRex.
This test is for Windows95, WindowsNT (Intel Single CPU) only.
